Pang Un Chol Wins Men’s 60kg Gold at Asian Weightlifting Championships

North Korea’s Pang Un Chol claimed the men’s 60kg title at the 2026 Asian Weightlifting Championships after lifting a combined total of 304kg in Gandhinagar, India. Pang secured gold with a 130kg snatch and 174kg clean and jerk, finishing comfortably ahead of Malaysia’s Mohamad Aniq Kasdan and Vietnam’s Gia Thanh Lai.

The men’s 60kg category at the 2026 Asian Weightlifting Championships concluded with a commanding performance from Pang Un Chol, who topped the standings through consistency across both lifting disciplines. Competing in Gandhinagar during the continental championships, Pang registered a winning total of 304kg to secure the gold medal for North Korea.

Pang successfully completed lifts of 125kg and 130kg in the snatch, missing only one attempt at 130kg. In the clean and jerk, he lifted 165kg and 174kg before narrowly missing an attempt at 174kg on one lift sequence. His combined total proved enough to finish 27kg clear of the field.

Malaysia’s Mohamad Aniq Kasdan secured silver with a total of 277kg, lifting 122kg in the snatch and 155kg in the clean and jerk. Kasdan successfully completed two snatch attempts before missing at 125kg, while also recovering after failed clean and jerk attempts to register a successful 155kg lift.

Vietnam’s Gia Thanh Lai claimed bronze after totaling 267kg, comprising a 121kg snatch and 146kg clean and jerk. Lai narrowly edged the remainder of the field to complete the podium in the category.

Saudi Arabia’s Mansour Abdulrahim finished fourth with 257kg, while Sri Lanka’s Supun Dilhara Somathilak and Dilanka Isurukumarayodag followed in fifth and sixth positions respectively. Bangladesh’s Md Ashikurrahmantaj placed seventh.

The result added another gold medal to North Korea’s tally at the continental competition, which took place from 10 to 17 May 2026 in Gandhinagar.
