Chinese Taipei’s Huang Yi-Chen secured the women’s 48kg title at the 2026 Asian Weightlifting Championships after lifting a combined total of 193kg in Gandhinagar, India. Huang edged compatriot Fang Wan-Ling by a single kilogram to claim gold, while India’s Komal Kohar completed the podium with bronze.
The women’s 48kg category at the 2026 Asian Weightlifting Championships produced one of the closest contests of the competition, with Huang Yi-Chen narrowly overcoming fellow Chinese Taipei lifter Fang Wan-Ling in a tight battle for gold. Competing during the continental championships in Gandhinagar, Huang totaled 193kg through a combination of 81kg in the snatch and 112kg in the clean and jerk.
Huang opened with a successful 78kg snatch and followed it with 81kg before failing at 84kg. In the clean and jerk, she successfully lifted 100kg, 108kg, and 112kg to move into the lead and secure the championship by a one-kilogram margin.
Fang Wan-Ling finished second with a total of 192kg after registering the highest snatch of the category at 84kg. Fang completed all three snatch attempts at 80kg, 82kg, and 84kg, but her clean and jerk total of 108kg left her just short of overtaking Huang.
India’s Komal Kohar claimed bronze with a combined total of 177kg, lifting 78kg in the snatch and 99kg in the clean and jerk. Kohar held off a close challenge from the Philippines’ Rose Jean Ramos, who finished fourth with 176kg.
Sri Lanka’s R.G. Upamalika and Hansani Dinusha placed fifth and sixth respectively, while Malaysia’s Irene Janehenry finished seventh. Bangladesh’s Mst Bristy placed eighth in the final standings.
The result added another gold medal for Chinese Taipei at the 2026 Asian Weightlifting Championships, which took place from 10 to 17 May in Gandhinagar.
