Zhao Jinlan Wins Women’s 53kg Gold at Asian Weightlifting Championships

China’s Zhao Jinlan secured the women’s 53kg title at the 2026 Asian Weightlifting Championships after lifting a combined total of 216kg in Gandhinagar, India. Zhao dominated the competition with a 95kg snatch and 121kg clean and jerk, finishing 21kg ahead of Vietnam’s Hoai Huongnguyen, while India’s Yadav Gyaneshwari claimed bronze.

The women’s 53kg competition at the 2026 Asian Weightlifting Championships concluded with a commanding performance from Zhao Jinlan, who led the field across both lifting disciplines. Competing during the continental championships in Gandhinagar, Zhao completed all six attempts and posted the highest total of the category at 216kg.

Zhao opened the snatch segment with successful lifts of 90kg and 93kg before completing 95kg on her final attempt. She maintained control in the clean and jerk, successfully lifting 112kg, 117kg, and 121kg to comfortably secure the gold medal.

Vietnam’s Hoai Huongnguyen finished second with a total of 195kg, comprising an 87kg snatch and 108kg clean and jerk. After missing her opening 85kg snatch attempt, Hoai recovered to complete 85kg and 87kg but narrowly missed 110kg in the clean and jerk.

India’s Yadav Gyaneshwari completed the podium with a total of 194kg, narrowly trailing silver by one kilogram. Gyaneshwari lifted 88kg in the snatch and 106kg in the clean and jerk after recovering from a failed second clean and jerk attempt at 106kg.

India’s Bar Koyel placed fourth with 188kg, while Cheng Ting-I of Chinese Taipei and Jung Hyedam of South Korea finished fifth and sixth respectively. Bangladesh’s Marjia Akterekra placed seventh, and Singapore’s Jiin Linchua finished eighth.

The result added another gold medal for China at the championships, which were held from 10 to 17 May 2026 in Gandhinagar.
